Specialist Community Practitioner (District Nursing)

This programme combines theoretical study and supervised practice within primary care, to develop specialist practitioners able to lead the development of future primary care services. It builds on clinical foundations and is designed for nurses who want to develop into district nurses as a specialist route in community nursing. The course features a great deal of critical analysis, synthesis and evaluation and a lot of discussion, dialogue and debate during which you will examine the diverse health needs of different populations. Completing this programme will help you gain a recordable specialist practice qualification. It will also increase your effectiveness in promoting and improving the health of the populations you serve, empowering individuals, groups and communities to take greater control of their health and health care support services. Teaching will build on your existing clinical experience, extending your theoretical and professional knowledge and understanding. During your studies, you will be encouraged to share your knowledge and experiences and to network within your peer group and beyond. Many of the sessions will be shared with different routes of the specialist community nursing programmes. Group discussions and workshops will provide an ideal opportunity for you to gain knowledge and appreciation of the working roles of other healthcare specialists.
