International Approaches to Early Childhood Education
This programme is aimed at graduates and graduate practitioners keen to examine international approaches to early childhood education (ECE). Students are offered the opportunity to: Compare Montessori�s ideas with other approaches; critically engage with the theoretical and practical issues of ECE; enhance their learning with a European placement (also open to international students).
A good Honours degree (minimum 2.1); some practical experience in an early childhood setting; a DBS check (for students undertaking a placement). International students should also hold IELTS English Language at a minimum of 6.5 or equivalent.
Modules include: The philosophy of Montessori education; research methods; international approaches to early childhood curriculum; democracy and participation in ECE; the reflective practitioner; global issues and constructions of childhood.
Modules are assessed via coursework, presentations, academic writing, reviews, projects, individual and group presentations, case studies, vivas and the dissertation.
