International Tourism Management

This is a flexible degree programme designed for graduates and those teaching or working in the tourism, leisure and hospitality sector. Completing this programme will give you the knowledge, critical analysis and research skills required to work as a management professional in this exciting global sector. You will gain a solid grounding in both management studies and social sciences, equipping you for a variety of careers within the complex and dynamic tourism industry.

Entry requirements

You will need a good Honours degree from a UK university (or equivalent overseas qualification) or a professional qualification with recognised degree equivalence or you could be currently working in the tourism, leisure or hospitality sector and be able to display the aptitude and motivation required to study at Masters level.

Course modules

The programme comprises six, 20 credit, core modules and a 60 credit dissertation.

•The nature and the international tourism industry and its impacts
•The complex dynamics of the global tourism industry
•Engaging with, and evaluation of, current concepts underpinning management practice within the tourism management environment
•An understanding of the processes driving development within the arena of international tourism management
•The application of principles or theoretical perspectives in a management situation
•The importance of management strategy as its relates to tourism management in an international context
•The importance of communication with other professionals in the tourism industry
•The importance of critical evaluation of data based on informed and reasoned rationales
•The importance of the selection and analysis of appropriate information for management decision-making activity

Assessment methods

A wide variety of teaching methods are used on the course including: interactive lectures, workshops, tutorials, seminars, group work, guest lectures and engagement with tourism industry managers through guest presentations and visits to industry partners.

The programme also makes extensive use of Canvas - LJMU's Virtual Learning environment.
There are one or two coursework assessment tasks per module. You will work on essays, reports, poster presentations, individual projects, case studies, formal reports, oral presentations and research-based projects.

To help you prepare your submissions, timely, constructive, developmental feedback will be provided throughout the course.
