Drug Discovery and Design

You will undertake an integrated, stimulating and challenging programme of study that is informed by contemporary research and is responsive to the changing nature of the pharmaceutical industry. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical science and a critical awareness of the most recent advances in the field of drug discovery and design. The programme is delivered in a variety of ways, including lectures, workshops and tutorials and is supported by extensive online learning material. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills and gain 1st-hand experience of industrially relevant techniques via structured practical sessions. Throughout the programme you will be able to demonstrate initiative and original work via problem-based learning and self-directed study. Emphasis will be placed on your ability to critically reflect on and communicate research findings. You will receive appropriate support as you build the knowledge, understanding and skills to become an independent learner for the future. The programme is supported and delivered by academic staff with a diverse range of expertise.

Entry requirements

You will need an Honours degree (minimum 2.2) in a chemical, biological or related science.

Course modules

Modules include: Research methods; analytical techniques; structure and function in organic molecules; physicochemical properties of therapeutic agents; medicinal chemistry; natural products; research project.
