You will be required to complete an individual dissertation, providing the opportunity to focus on a subject that is of particular interest to you. The School of the Built Environment works in close partnership with industry and practice through scholarship, research, consultancy and the provision for lifelong learning. This helps ensure that our programmes are responsive to the changing needs of industry, government, local communities and professional practice. In addition to the School's extensive and long-standing links with the profession, this MSc course has its own direct links with industry through a special lectures programme, featuring highly experienced team of practitioners from across the UK. This offers you great networking opportunities with key contacts plus engagement with the latest thinking and practice in the sector. Our Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies Research Institute (BEST) has been awarded Institute status in recognition of its outstanding work and is supported internationally by the EU, UK and USA Ministry of Defence, Carbon Trust and Technology Strategy Board. This research and other consultancy initiatives directly inform teaching on the Masters programme. A diploma or a certificate in Commercial Building Surveying is an available award for anyone not wishing to undertake the Masters programme.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree with a minimum 2.2 classification or a professional qualification of equivalent standing together with such relevant professional experience as deemed appropriate by the School. Non-UK applicants will be expected to have demonstrated competence in English language equivalent to a minimum of IELTS 6.5. Applicants who have studied and successfully achieved a UK degree within 24 months of the start of the MSc are exempt from this requirement.

Core modules: research methods; dissertation; building technology; building materials and pathology; building refurbishment and design; maintenance and facilities management; law; construction contract administration.
