Architectural Engineering

The overall aim of the this is to develop the required range of knowledge, understanding and practical skills appropriate to a variety of roles within the architectural engineering sector. The programme is designed to build upon design knowledge and skills developed at first degree level. It offers you a stimulating and challenging postgraduate programme of study that will extend your knowledge and skills with application to the emerging and specialist discipline of architectural engineering. During the programme, you will: Develop and extend your understanding of current and emerging sustainable technology and practices; develop analytical, critical and problem solving skills appropriate to evaluating and improving building performance with design solutions; have clear career development opportunities in areas allied to architectural engineering, technology and management; develop your skills as independent researchers and creative problem solvers in the architectural engineering sector. In addition, by the end of your studies you will be able to: Demonstrate knowledge of the fundamental concepts and principles of architectural engineering as a sustainable built environment discipline; demonstrate critical understanding of the implications of legal, economic, design, environmental and management issues that are relevant to architectural engineers; apply appropriate technical solutions following the analysis and evaluation of complex design problems.

Entry requirements

The standard entry qualification is an Honours degree in a cognate discipline from an approved university. The degree award should be at least second class upper level. A cognate discipline includes degrees in architecture, design, engineering and built environment subject areas. Alternative qualifications together with substantial relevant work experience may also be deemed to be acceptable for entry to the programme subject to the approval of the programme leader. Overseas student applicants must have the equivalent qualifications as UK students. In addition they must have achieved an IELTS score of at least 6.5.

Course modules

Core modules: Building design suite; building engineering and detailing; collaborative project; theory and practice in BIM (building information modelling); sustainable design; research methods; dissertation.
