Port Management

Ports are part of the international logistics industry and with this in mind, this management programme incorporates 2 relevant modules concentrating on the role of international trade and the logistics sector. On completion of the course you will have a rounded view of the management of ports and port terminals as well as the wider logistics industry. In addition you will be able to move into port management worldwide, as the programme covers container and bulk port operations at postgraduate level, as well as the personnel issues ensuing from the management of port labour. You will have the option to study risk and safety management, plus the wider aspects of shipping. This will allow you to experience facets of the industry not available on other similar programmes. You will also benefit from industrial visits and hear speakers from the industry further broadening your experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants would normally require one of the following: A good honours degree or equivalent in Maritime, Logistics, Science, Business, Management or Engineering related study; certain professional qualifications will be considered at the discretion of the programme team. Typically these should be a UK Class 1 Master Mariner or Chief Engineer certificate of competence, or a non-UK equivalent. Non-UK applicants will be expected to have demonstrated competence in English language equivalent to IELTS 6.0 within the previous 24 months. Applicants who have studied and successfully achieved a UK degree within the previous 24 months are exempt from this requirement.

Core modules: MSc project; global transport systems; legal principles; logistics systems; operations research; port administration; port business strategy; preparing for a project; research skills. Option modules: Export trade law; information management and communications systems; international trade; marine insurance; maritime business and management; maritime finance and economics; maritime law; maritime security; project management; supply chain modelling.
