Screenwriting

The course develops screenwriting abilities through a programme of lectures, workshops, tutorials and seminars, preparing students for a career as a scriptwriter in film and television. Its unique workshop and portfolio creation programme also provides a sound basis for work as a script editor or reader.

Entry requirements

Educational level equivalent to an Honours degree. It is preferable that applicants have a previous degree, but it is not essential. Students are not accepted based on their writing talent and the work they submit during their application. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.0 (or equivalent), with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the four skills.

Course modules

Modules include: TV / film / radio adaptation (existing format, process and practice); TV / film / radio adaptation (critical analysis and research methodologies); industry knowledge, skills and methodologies; collaborative unit; TV / film / radio adaptation (existing format, process and practice); TV / film / radio adaptation (critical analysis and research methodologies); industry knowledge, skills and methodologies; major project (applied research) ; major project (process and practice); major project (applied research); major project (process and practice).

Assessment methods

Assessment is by 4 major pieces of writing submitted throughout the course and participation in a workshop programme.
