The course provides students with an opportunity to challenge footwear design and manufacture through both new technology and by hand craftsmanship; in the process, developing innovative techniques for mastering fashioned footwear; students also build on their previous knowledge and skills to create innovative footwear extending existing norms both conceptually and technologically, through either the bespoke handcrafted or mass production manufacturing.
An Honours degree at 2.1 or above in footwear design and/or production; or equivalent qualifications; or minimum 3 years' relevant and qualitative industrial experience; portfolio; interview, applicants invited to interview should bring their portfolio and 3 footwear products that they have made; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in any 1 skill.
Modules include: Studio methodologies in practice, creative and technical innovation; research methodologies; collaborative unit; context analysis and Master's project planning; Master's project.
Assessment is by a technological investigation into new methods with prototypes; or a dissertation on a design-based subject.
