Fashion Design Management

This course responds to the fashion and retail industry demand for appropriately educated Design Management specialists who can effectively apply their professionalism to organisations, which might include fashion brands, retailers, manufacturers or consultancies. This programme is primarily for design graduates, however those from business backgrounds, or with industry experience, are also encouraged to apply. Students are able to undertake live projects and briefs, work with industry and research practitioners, and attend a wide range of presentations across the course, college and university. The course supports global perspectives, and students are encouraged to apply business and theoretical models to their own experience and future career ambitions. The majority of students will enter roles in industry in either large and medium-sized companies, or entrepreneurial start-ups. Others may wish to pursue careers in further postgraduate study.

Entry requirements

An Honours degree at 2.1 or above in fashion or clothing design and/or production; applicants with a degree in another subject may be considered, depending on the strength of the application; or equivalent qualifications; or relevant and quantitative industrial experience for a minimum of 3 years; interview. Applications from mature students are welcomed. Applicants selected for interview will be asked to bring a portfolio of previous work, including developmental work where possible, and 2 menswear garments they have made to evidence their skills. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in any 1 skill.

Modules include: Design thinking; fashion branding; research methods; creative futures; managing fashion projects; collaborative unit; Master's project.
