Secondary Education (Modern Languages French, German or Spanish)
This is a vocational programme open to suitably qualified graduates and translators who are seeking further qualification and specialised training to enhance their career development. The course is designed specifically for those who wish to advance their career in translation and enhance their employability by acquiring new knowledge and skills in the translation of specialised texts. The course runs several language combinations comprising English paired with the following languages: Arabic; Chinese (Mandarin); Dutch; French; German; Greek; Italian; Japanese; Polish; Portuguese; Russian; Spanish.
Candidates should normally have a 1st degree in translation, interpreting, modern languages or related fields. They are expected to have: Native knowledge of mother language; near-native proficiency in the 1st foreign language; good command of the 2nd foreign language (if applicable). Non-native speakers of English require IELTS 6.5 minimum with a minimum score of 6 in all component parts or equivalent.
Core modules: Characteristics of specialised texts; the translator and the specialised text; translating for international organisations.
You are assessed via a variety of methods including coursework, portfolios, and translations.
