Early Childhood (Employment-Based)

The course equips students to implement effective practice with children and families in a range of situations and to act as an advocate for their rights and well-being. This is done through: valuing students� individual experience and existing knowledge; embracing different opinions and experiencesensuring that issues of equality and social justice underpin work; engaging in: continuous critical reflection and analysis; working with integrity, energy and enthusiasm.

Entry requirements

A degree classification of 2.2 or above. GCSE grade C or above in maths, English and science at the point of application. Equivalency exams done, equivalency testing or A Star Teachers will also be accepted. All entrants must have passed the professional skills tests prior to entry. This means that immediately upon submitting your application you will need to register to do your skills tests. See the Department for Education website for more information on the tests. All entrants must demonstrate their suitability to teach. All entrants must have an enhanced disclosure and barring service certificate. Applicants must: Be employed in an appropriate early years setting for at least 16 hours per week; be working at settings that deliver the early years foundation stage; be working directly with children aged birth to 5. Applicants working in maintained schools must be employed as unqualified teachers and must be paid in accordance with at least point 1 on the unqualified teachers� pay scale for the period of their training.

Assessment methods

Assessment of the taught course is through written course work, presentations and preparation of resources and is based on coursework, with no formal examinations.
