Secondary Education (Physical Education)
The course structure provides for increasing amounts of school-based work with a gradual progression to whole-class teaching, with responsibility for management and assessment of pupils increasing accordingly.
Relevant UK degree grade 2.2 or equivalent. This should include physical education in the degree title or be another sport related degree that includes modules on teaching and learning (pedagogy). If applicants have neither of these, extensive experience will be considered. GCSE English grade C or above (or equivalent), GCSE maths grade C or above (or equivalent). QTS skills tests in literacy and numeracy. A valid Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure certificate and confirmation of fitness to teach (London Metropolitan University health check). You will be advised to apply for these after an offer is made. All applicants must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the English language.
There are 4 formal assessment elements: school experience a; school experience b. Teaching ability is assessed in relation to the standards for qualified teacher status; educational research assignment (involving an in depth exploration of an educational issue); a professional practice portfolio which is compiled across the year, detailing personal experiences and reflections on their development as a teacher, mainly in relation to practical teaching experience during school placements.
