The course aims to ensure that students have sound theoretical, evidence-based knowledge to be competent and more advanced practitioners in their chosen field.

Entry requirements

A Bachelor degree with a minimum 2.2 classification. Candidates without a health or science related degree are required to complete a Life Sciences work book package to satisfy the Life Sciences element of the APL portfolio. In accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements, Maths and English GCSEs/equivalent (at C or above) are also required.

Course modules

Year 1: applied biological and pharmacological sciences for nursing; adult nursing and professional practice; public health and well-being. Year 2: caring for adults with long-term conditions; adult acute and complex care; politics and leadership; dissertation (optional).

Sponsorship information

If you are attending a Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Therapeutic Radiography, Diagnostic Radiography or Operating Department Practice course and meet certain residency and eligibility criteria you will have your tuition fees paid in full by the NHS and you will normally receive an income assessed bursary from the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA). The bursary is a grant intended to cover living costs and is non-repayable.
