Advanced Nurse Practitioner

The course is designed to support advancement of clinical knowledge and skills during the programme. The programme incorporates the Non Medical Prescribing programme for those students who are not already independent.

Entry requirements

Experienced nurses working in primary, secondary or tertiary health care settings with at least 2 years post-registration nursing experience.

Course modules

Modules include: Physiological principles for advanced nurse practitioners (ANP); advanced assessment skills for clinical; clinical reasoning and applied pathophysiology for ANPs; professional development days; leadership and service development for advanced practice; managing clinical complexity in advanced nursing practice; non medical prescribing programme.

Assessment methods

Assessment includes clinical case analysis, a health needs assessment leading to development of a service proposal, completion of certified clinical hours and practical assessments.
