Internet Technologies with Business

This programme will provide you with knowledge and expertise in Internet systems and technologies with basic and advanced levels of business aspects for not only providing the usual Internet service businesses, but also for generating new Internet business opportunities. Technological expertise and the business angle provided in this programme will give you the necessary qualification to further your career in either technology development fields or technology management with possible new business and entrepreneurship development opportunities. The programme will allow for creation of business minded technologists as well as technology minded business people for the design of Future Internet architectures, systems, and business models.

Entry requirements

Minimum of a lower 2nd Class Honours degree in electronics, computing, physics, mathematics or a related degree with industrial experience from a UK university, or an equivalent overseas qualification recognised by Loughborough University. English language requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each subtest (reading, listening, writing and speaking) or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: Collaborative project; internet and communication networks; internet of things and applications; individual project, dissertation, business plan or placement.
Optional modules include: Innovation management; entrepreneurship; intellectual property; strategy and planning; understanding business failure; fundamentals of multimedia signals and processing; media processing and coding; advanced 3D user environments; content and network security; introduction to programming and MatLab; mobile networks and wireless networks; media applications, design and quality of experience; funding.

Assessment methods

Modules are assessed primarily by exams and also include a combination of group exercises, presentations and time-constrained coursework and assignments with varying levels of weighting depending on the nature of each module.

Applicants that are shortlisted will be asked to complete a short video interview and the award will be given at the discretion of the Dean, with the support of the Senior Leadership Team. • Excellence Scholarship: This scholarship awards high achieving UK, EU and International students. • Alumni Bursary: The Alumni Bursary offers graduates from Loughborough University 20% towards the full cost of their tuition fees, regardless of their programme or nationality. • 1909 Excellence Award: £1,909 off tuition fees for students who wish to study a programme from the Institute for Digital Technologies, the Institute for Design Innovation or the Institute for Sport Business AND have made a significant contribution to their University during their studies OR have at least two years or relevant, professional work experience OR have a plan to create a new business after graduation.
