Internet and Media Clouds

This programme provides students with knowledge and expertise in Internet and media clouds. It has been designed to give students a deep understanding of the Internet and communication networks, media clouds for storage and processing of ever increasing audio/visual user data, as well as future Internet architectures with media cloud structures and other related application areas. Combination of the Internet and cloud technologies is the latest advancement in both fixed and mobile internet technologies used for everyday industrial and personal applications. The programme helps students to understand how cloud technologies can be used in a co-operative way to assist the future Internet services. This leads to triggering of further research in the area, benefitting all students who engage with this programme.

Entry requirements

Minimum of a lower 2nd Class Honours degree in electronics, physics and related degree course from a UK university or equivalent overseas qualification recognised by Loughborough University. English language requirements: IELTS: 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each subtest (reading, listening, writing and speaking) or equivalent.

Course modules

Core modules include: collaborative project; fundamentals of multimedia signals and processing; Internet and communications network; media cloud applications and services; cloud technologies and systems; second subject module.
Optional modules include: content and network security; Internet of things and application; introduction to programming and Matlab.

Assessment methods

Modules are assessed primarily by exams and may also include a combination of essays, group exercises, presentations and time constrained assignments.
