Areas of research include: loss prevention; hazard analysis; process control; food engineering and biotechnology includes: fermentation; protein processing; enzyme processes; ultra filtration; reverse osmosis; spray drying; properties and mass transfer in food; particle technology: includes gas cleaning; aerosol technology; filtration; solid-liquid separation; particle characterisation; particle-fluid interaction; powder flow; membrane technology; contamination control; process technology includes: polymerisation reactors; mixing and fluid properties, 2-phase flow; heat transfer; emulsions and colloids; process modelling and control; solid-fluid systems includes: catalysis; sorption chromatography; adsorption equilibria; meniscus properties; porous media.
Honours degree in chemical engineering or related field (e.g. chemistry, mathematics, computing science, biochemistry).
Basic EPSRC Studentships and industrial CASE awards are available for UK/EU students; top-up money from Faculty of Engineering may be available; overseas students with ORS awards may be funded jointly by Department and Faculty.
