Finance and Management

This programme is designed to fast-track the careers of graduates from non-finance backgrounds who want to work in financial management for commercial and non-commercial organisations. The programme uses the expertise of research-active academics to develop the student's knowledge and analytical skills in finance-relevant fields. Students develop an understanding of business and management by studying across a range of areas, including marketing, HR, accounting, strategic management and in particular, finance. The student's financial knowledge and skills are further developed within accounting and finance modules. All modules combine contemporary case studies with skills-based coursework, enabling students to pursue a programme where content is up-to-date, relevant and geared towards helping studnets achieve their ambitions.

Entry requirements

A good Honours degree (lower 2nd Class Honours or higher) in a non-finance field from a UK university or equivalent overseas qualification recognised by Loughborough University. Evidence of numerical proficiency as demonstrated through the study of mathematical or statistical subjects in some part of the 1st degree. Applicants with a finance degree are encouraged to apply for the specialist finance Master's programmes.

Course modules

Semester 1 core modules: accounting and performance measurement; foundations of corporate finance; human resource management; marketing in the organisation; skills for employability and personal development (2 semester). Semester 2 core modules: corporate and wholesale finance; financial statement analysis and business valuation; international financial management; skills for employability and personal development (2 semester). Optional modules: business economics; business environment analysis; business forecasting; services and retail management; small business and entrepreneurship. Summer: current issues in finance; financial derivatives; global strategic management.

Assessment methods

Modules are assessed by a combination of examinations and assignments.

The scholarship and bursary range is designed to include a wide range of students and consists of: Alumni scholarships (for UK/EU and international students); Outstanding academic achievement scholarships; Sports scholarships; Hardship bursaries and other funding options; International student specific scholarships, including: Loughborough University Graduate School Development Trust Africa; USA scholarships and loans; and Santander International postgraduate scholarships. Whilst some of scholarships are offered automatically based on the course application, some scholarships and bursaries do require a separate application and have limited availability and application deadlines.
