Current research activities: ceramics science and engineering: ceramic synthesis from precursors; ceramic and metal powder processing and forming; mathematical modelling of powder forming; sol-gel processing of ceramics and glasses; polymer science and technology: interests include heterogeneous polymer systems, polymer processing, filled systems, oriented polymers, synthesis and properties of polyurethanes; power and aerospace materials: aim to relate composition, processing and service parameters to mechanical properties of metallic alloys and polymer composites; composites research includes finite element analysis of high-impact composites and polyamide ceramer interlayer composites; Rubber Process Engineering Centre: rubber mixing, microstructure and properties of rubber blend compounds, equipment development, application of finite element analysis to rubber processing; surface and interface engineering: focus on electrode position, anodising, polymer surfaces and interfaces; also on environmental aspects of metal finishing.
