Physics of Materials
We have a long history of internationally recognised research in the study and development of new materials. This course gives the possibility of working with and learning from expert researchers in the physics of materials in a friendly and vibrant research atmosphere provided by the international team of scientists at the Department of Physics. This programme contains a combination of supervised research work, development of research skills and taught material. The programme involves a set of taught modules and an experimental or theoretical research project. The theme of the project will be dedicated to one of the topical areas in physics of materials including graphene-based materials, thin film materials, shape memory compounds or nanomaterials or experimental study of properties of materials. Core study areas mathematical methods for interdisciplinary sciences, research methods in physics, superconductivity and nanoscience, characterisation techniques in solid state physics, and a research project. Optional study areas include polymer properties, polymer science, advanced characterisation techniques, simulation of advanced materials and processes, and materials modelling.
