Areas of research include: geographies of global change: world systems analysis and political geography; historical geography of Europe; imperialism and the history of geographical thought; globalisation, economy and world cities; post-structuralist philosophy and postmodernism; geographical information systems and environmental management; geographies of development and difference: social and cultural geography; geopolitics and North-South relations, with special reference to Latin and Central America; technology and children's geographies; urban social geography; analysis of environmental processes: fluvial, coastal and Aeolian sedimentology; in-channel river ecology and the dynamics of flood plains and river corridors; forest hydrology; environmental and natural resource management; quaternary environmental change and geochronology.
