Sports Biomechanics

This programme provides the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of sports biomechanics. All aspects of sports biomechanics are covered, ranging from experimental equipment requirements and utilisation through to the latest theoretical considerations and research problems.

Entry requirements

An Upper 2nd Class (2.1) Honours degree in sports science with a strong biomechanics component, engineering, maths, physics or similar field.

Course modules

Compulsory modules, semester 1: research methodologies and methods; theoretical biomechanics; neuromuscular function. Semester 2, quantitative research; motion analysis of human movement; developing computer models for sports biomechanics; semesters 1 and 2; current research in sports biomechanics; research project.

Assessment methods

The assessment of the taught modules has an equal split between coursework and examination with laboratory reports accounting for 40 per cent of the coursework assessment. The research project is assessed on a journal article style report of up to 5000 words.
