Sport and Exercise Nutrition

This programme provides an opportunity to gain in-depth understanding of the nutritional and metabolic demands of exercise, of the interactions between diet, exercise and health, and of how nutrition influences sports performance. The programme is designed to provide graduates with training in sport and exercise nutrition which will equip them for future careers in research, teaching in higher education, in industry, or in applied sports nutrition support. It is not a substitute for a dietetic qualification.

Entry requirements

An Upper 2nd Class (2.1) Honours degree in nutrition, dietetics, physiology, sports science with a strong biological sciences component, or a related subject.

Course modules

Programme modules, semester 1: sport and exercise nutrition; physiology of endurance performance; exercise and immunology; applied nutrition. Semester 2: advanced sport and exercise nutrition; laboratory techniques in sport and exercise nutrition; quantitative research ; semester 2 / summer; research project.

Assessment methods

Examination, coursework and a research paper.
