Sport Management

This programme aims to prepare students for careers in sport management. Core study areas include sport markets and industries, managing service quality in sport, economics of sport and leisure, management of human resources, research methods for sport management, sport management: theory and practice, introduction to financial management, marketing management, strategic management, and a research project.

Entry requirements

For British students, an Upper 2nd Class (2.1) Honours degree in sports science or social science discipline. For overseas students, a degree equivalent to a British Upper 2nd Class Honours degree.

Course modules

Programme modules, compulsory modules: semester 1; sport markets and industries; managing service quality in sport; economics of sport and leisure; management of human resources; research methods for sport management. Semester 2; sport management: theory and practice; introduction to financial management; marketing management; strategic management; summer; project.

Assessment methods

Students are asked to complete group presentations, marketing plans and essays. Exams do feature for some modules. The final, major piece of assessment is the research project. Each student is assigned a supervisor, and constructs a real research projects aimed at producing new knowledge about an area of sport management they are interested in. Sport marketing, management, economics and policy projects are all popular.
