Economic and Financial Analysis

The MSc in Economic and Financial Analysis provides industry ready graduates equipped with the skills needed for success in a variety of banking, finance, analysis, local government, regional development and a wide array of further exciting and challenging careers. Students are taught critical knowledge for economic and financial analyst positions plus have extended opportunities to develop highly valued skills using standard industry software (Bloomberg and Stata) in their analysis of real data to answer their own Economic or Finance research questions. All this is done in a challenging and thought provoking manner, which questions the traditional assumptions underlying many mainstream models of societies and economies to arrive at more useful perspectives.

Entry requirements

A good honours degree or equivalent in economics, finance or business. Applicants without a degree but equivalent professional qualifications or significant relevant experience are welcomed. If an applicants first language is not English and/or their first degree was not taught in English, they must have English language score of IETLS 6.5 or equivalent. Applicants with an IETLS score of 5.5 may be offered a place on the proviso of successfully completing an approved English language course at MMUs British Council accredited English Language Centre.

Course modules

Modules include: behavioural economics and financial decision making; financial economics and the banking crisis; global economic analysis; investigating business practice; research methods; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Students are assessed by a combination of coursework and written examinations. Research and academic skills are taught to support the successful completion of their taught units and dissertation/research project.
