In today's organisations, technology and big data is a business-critical resource integrated into the fabric of business operation. There is a growing recognition that businesses need to leverage big data in order to maximise competitive opportunities. This programme focuses on both of these elements in preparing students to achieve a balanced combination of technical competence coupled with an understanding of business intelligence. The programme allows students to develop the acumen necessary to identify opportunities for the organisation through understanding data, as well as the ability to build a case for exploiting and deploying technological solutions. This course is taught at the Business School by experienced tutors with real world consultancy and research experience in the field of digital business. Opportunities may exist for short (6-12 week) placements during the summer period which could be linked to the student's dissertation or research project.

Entry requirements

Normally a good UK Honours degree (minimum 2.2), or equivalent (including International), in any subject. We also welcome applications from candidates who may not have a degree but do have equivalent professional qualifications or significant, relevant management experience. This course is suitable to students with a variety of academic and professional backgrounds. It aims to equip those who wish to pursue a managerial career with the required skills to understand and apply knowledge and understanding of Business Analytics. However, it should be noted that applicants are not expected to possess any significant technical skills when for applying for this course. Students whose 1st language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency in the English language.

Course modules

Core modules: business analytics; strategic information systems and technology; emerging technologies for the enterprise; research, academic and professional skills; research project/dissertation.

Assessment methods

Students are assessed through a mixture of coursework and examinations, alongside face-to-face or digital presentations and multimedia assignments.
