Workplace safety and worker health is increasingly significant in tackling wider societal issues around morbidity, early mortality and the influences of lifestyle on individuals and communities. This programme is a comprehensive study into the current and emerging legal and compliance issues, and the scientific, health and psychosocial factors influencing 21st century Health and Safety. It introduces the student to the multitude of factors that are influential in workplace safety and health. The course has extensive practical emphasis, with regular site visits to a variety of industrial and commercial settings. The knowledge acquired is applied to risk assessment, management and compliance requirements, to maintaining workplace safety, and to building infrastructure and compliance systems. Demand for qualified individuals who can make a significant impact in the workplace environment on the health and safety of employees is high, with excellent starting salaries and progression.

Entry requirements

MSc: You will normally have a good honours degree, or international equivalent, and/or significant proven experience in a relevant field. MSc: You will normally have a good honours degree (minimum 2:2), or international equivalent, in a relevant subject or significant proven experience in a relevant field. Overseas applicants will require IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 with no less than 5.5 in any category, or an equivalent accepted English qualification.

Assessment methods

Assignments include critical reviews of practice and regulation, presentations, practical experiments and data analysis reports, case studies and an independent dissertation.
