Speech and Language Therapy (Pre-Registration)
The programme will offer Psychology graduates the opportunity to prepare for practice as a speech and language therapist and to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. Speech and Language Therapists are concerned with the management of disorders of language, speech, fluency, voice, communication and swallowing in children and adults. This programme will focus in particular on creating research-active graduates who will contribute to evidence-based practice within the profession.
MSc: Applicants must have Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society. The recruitment process for this programme includes assessing applicants by interview for the core values of the NHS Constitution. UCAS Tariff points/Grades required: A Psychology degree with a First or 2:1. Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society. IELTS (Academic module) 7.5 with no element below 7.0. Additional Requirements: A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate is required for all students. This will be completed through the University prior to enrolment. To complete the application process, you need to be able to reflect on the work of a speech and language therapist and have knowledge of communication difficulties. This information can be gained from observation of a speech and language therapy session (live or video) or from personal experience. Considerable weight is given to relevant work or voluntary experience with one or more potential client groups. You will also be expected to be able to express yourself competently in spoken and written English, have strong interpersonal skills, and be at least 18 years of age at the time of commencement of the course. Evidence of recent successful academic study (within the last 5 years), to A-Level standard or above. MSc: Applicants must have a minimum 2:1 UK undergraduate honours degree (or international equivalent). Overseas applicants will require IELTS with an overall score of 7.5 with no less than 7.0 in any category, or an equivalent accepted English qualification. A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate is required for all students. This will be completed through the university prior to enrolment.
