Advanced Practice in Health and Social Care

Progress your clinical skills, develop your understanding of research and evaluation and advance your management and leadership skills. This is inter-professional learning for the modern health and social care workforce. Our masters degree provides qualified practitioners, educators and managers with the knowledge and skills to meet the current and future demands of practice, research integration and policy drivers. This course is highly flexible and you can shape a portfolio of units from across the University to suit your career aspirations. Whichever health or social care setting you work in, some of the common skills you'll use as an advanced practitioner include exercising clinical leadership, understanding and using research, supporting educational development, and developing clinical and practice management in the UK and international contexts. Through this course, you'll explore these themes and build upon your existing knowledge and experience to enable you to lead and support the development and delivery of evidence-based practice. You'll study core units related to research and evaluation skills, and project planning, and choose option units that are relevant to your career aspirations. You might consider topics such as how and why issues become prevalent (or are in decline) due to policy and political positions, economic analyses of healthcare technologies, or how to critically evaluate the problematic nature of change management. We offer both general and specialist pathways on this course, giving you the opportunity to explore your specialist area of practice and obtain a relevant, named qualification. *Please note this course does not lead to advanced practitioner status.
