Explore the relationship between education and environmental, technological and social change. Critically analyse international initiatives, education performance, and development issues. Reflect on your environment and influence change in education. Through this course you'll be introduced to the international landscape of education and develop your understanding of how globalisation has changed the way that education is understood and practised around the world. You'll explore international comparisons of schools and universities, the challenges of identifying and borrowing good educational practices from other places, and the emerging global trends that educators must prepare for today. You'll also consider big issues such as the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on education and jobs, as well as gaining practical skills in building international partnerships and conducting research-based interventions. Understanding how local needs relate to global trends is vital for international education and developing this ability is an important part of the course. You'll learn from lecturers who have experience teaching and researching all around the world. You'll bring questions and challenges from your own contexts and benefit from investigating them in conversation with a diverse range of other critical perspectives. You'll also complete a case study project where you'll investigate how globalisation is changing education in particular places. You could be working on anything from educational policy and governance to leading change in schools or developing international perspectives in classroom practice. We will actively encourage you to investigate familiar educational contexts from new perspectives and to discover new approaches to education, including through developing international partnerships.
MA: Applicants need to have an honours degree, or a postgraduate diploma or a professional qualification recognised as being equivalent to a UK honours degree. Other qualifications or experience may be acceptable if students are able to demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skills to a UK honours degree standard. Overseas applicants will require IELTS with an overall score of 6.5 with no less than 5.5 in any category, or an equivalent accepted English qualification.
