Masters in Medicine (Sports and Exercise Medicine)

Our new part-time masters degree supports doctors with a specialist interest in, or who are pursuing a career in, sport and exercise medicine, providing you with an academic qualification that recognises that interest. It provides you with an academic qualification that recognises your special interest in sport and exercise medicine. You'll complete four core units, in Evidence-based Practice, Education and Training in Practice, Leadership in Clinical Care Settings, and Research Methods. These units provide you with invaluable transferrable skills, whatever career choice you make in the future. You'll also complete two specialist units, The Sports Team Physician and Emergency Care in Sport, and a project related to the field of sport and exercise medicine. Some of the key topics you'll consider include cardiology in sport, women's health in sport and the medical management of sports conditions. You'll develop skills in caring for an injured player in a sports context, such as advanced thoracic trauma management and on-field assessment of concussion. We teach you via blended learning, through methods such as online sessions, face-to-face tutorials, and group work to help you network and share best practice with fellow students. For the two sport and exercise units, you'll usually have sessions at the Manchester Institute for Health and Performance (MIHP). MIHP is a specialist facility that combines cutting-edge diagnostics and facilities, education, and research and development across sport science and medicine.
