Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting and School Nursing)
This course has a focus on public health, community development, health needs assessment and health inequalities. All aspects of the course focus on the development of skills, knowledge and attributes required for the SCPHN role. The course leads to registration on part 3 of the NMC register for Specialist Community Public Health Nursing.
Applicants must be a first level nurse or midwife with a current or pending registration on the NMC Professional register and must have supported practice placement.
Core modules: Developing leadership and professional practice; principles of public health; public health in practice; developing research skills. Pathway modules: Principles of health visiting practice; developing health visiting practice; SCPHN-specialist practice of health visiting. School Nursing modules: Principles of school nursing practice; developing school nursing practice; SCPHN-specialist practice of school nursing.
Assessment is through written assignments, presentations, examinations and assessment of practice.
