This course offers professional education and an academic qualification for nurses and physicians in emergency contexts. 4 distinct study routes are available and all have been designed entirely by physiciancs and nurses experienced in emergency care. Teaching is online and based around a virtual hospital with problem-based learning and online discussions with colleagues and fellow students. The course is made up of 2 phases: phase 1 provides a range of core and elective units from which students can select a personalised route; phase 2 consists of a substantial practitioner project in a field of emergency medicine of the student's choice.
Applicants to be registered medical practitioners, practicing or recently practiced in an area of urgent or emergency care; plus a successful interview usually conducted by telephone.
Modules include: Acute medical emergencies; paediatric emergencies; surgical emergencies; psychosocial emergencies; trauma emergencies; evidence-based emergency practice; study design and execution in emergency medicine; human resource management in the emergency department; legal aspects of emergency medicine; managing the emergency department; emergency life support; major incident management emergency nursing; minor illness management; minor injury management; combat casualty care; managing emergencies in a military setting; military pre-hospital care; leadership in urgent care paediatric emergency medicine; further management of paediatric medical emergencies; further management of paediatric surgical and psychosocial emergencies; military emergency medicine.
