This course prepares graduates of all disciplines for a career in the modern information society and its industries. The taught element is equivalent to a postgraduate diploma, and as a professional qualification enables progression to chartership in your first professional post. Successful completion of a dissertation develops your knowledge of the field and skills as a researcher, resulting in the award of MA. A mandatory placement provides networking opportunities within the library, information and media industries in the North West.

Entry requirements

Students will normally have an undergraduate Honours degree (or equivalent) in any discipline.

Course modules

Core units will be in the areas of: Research and practice; management for information professionals; search and retrieval; information futures; dissertation. You will also choose 2 units from core options and electives from a list including: Digital rights; eLearning and the organisation; web programming; web and search applications; digital living.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on coursework.
