Manchester Metropolitan University

MA by research - Contemporary arts with routes in dance, drama, live arts, theatre, music, visual arts, writing and research.

***Manchester Metropolitan University is currently undertaking a review of long-term academic provision on the Cheshire campus. The review will look at how we might re-focus the types of courses offered at Cheshire in the context of the wider University provision. A range of options is currently being considered. We can confirm that we are taking and processing applications for full time postgraduate courses and any part time courses of one year duration starting in 2017 on the Cheshire Campus. However, with regard to longer part time postgraduate courses, due to the ongoing review, the University will accept applications for courses delivered at Cheshire but will not process those applications until more is known in respect of the future of the campus.*** This flexible, interdisciplinary programme leads to subject-specific awards in: applied arts; dance; drama; intermedia; live arts; music; visual arts; writing; in this course it is possible to combine media, whilst practices of combined or interdisciplinary arts may draw freely across disciplines and explore new technologies. The MA by Research suits artists and scholars from a range of arts disciplines who wish to develop a focused critical inquiry at this level, and also for those who may eventually aspire to develop their studies at PhD level. All proposed research projects are aligned with specialist expertise of staff. The course offers students the opportunity to develop practice research inquiries that can also cross artistic disciplines and culminate in a range of different outcomes, decided upon through a Learning Agreement developed between the student and their supervisor. The degree also caters for emergent scholars looking to develop a primarily reflective analytical enquiry. Whether your own arts practice or that of others becomes the focus of the research, you will be supported in determining suitable research methodologies towards the development of your project. You will work in an exciting arts environment with good facilities and technical support. A large, mixed-disciplinary student community and exemplary contemporary Art Centre provision add to our unique agenda. For up-to-date information about this course, visit:
