Textiles for Fashion
Textiles for Fashion provides students with opportunity for practice-based postgraduate study in the creation of innovative textile designs and concepts for fashion end use. Outcomes could be related to design, styling, forecasting and prediction, fashion promotion and consultancy, visual merchandising, art direction, publishing or pursuing further postgraduate study. Students are encouraged to develop design content that allows them to explore alternative ways of engaging with fashion and textiles audiences such as trend books, new media or websites, photography, film, or print media such as magazines and look-books. The student's work should demonstrate a keen sense of contextual awareness, knowing where the work fits in the world and how the world might affect it. The programme emphasises the importance of being digitally articulate; students are welcome to combine this with traditional media and design processes.
You will normally have an undergraduate UK Honours degree or international equivalent or a degree-equivalent postgraduate diploma or a professional qualification. Alternatively, you may be admitted if you can demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skills at Honours degree standard. In addition you also need to submit a digital portfolio.
Core modules: design intention; design proposition; design textiles for fashion major project; professional platforms. Optional modules: choice of 1 option from the following (subject to change): contested territories; digital futures; health and wellbeing; images and archives; making our futures: ecological arts and sustainable design; negotiated study; object and context; the museum and the city; writing research and funding proposals.
