Accounting

The degree has been designed for graduates who want to gain advanced financial management skills in order to move into the accountancy profession. By the end of the course you will be able to: prepare financial statements; interpret financial data; apply and manipulate costing and management accounting data; apply financial management tools in capital markets. On the successful completion of the course, you will gain exemptions from the foundation papers of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA).

Entry requirements

2nd Class Honours degree or above in accounting, or an overseas equivalent qualification. You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all four components).

Course modules

Modules include: Contemporary issues in accounting; corporate governance and accountability; financial data analysis; financial management; financial reporting; strategic management accounting; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment is through exams, essays and other written assignments, and presentations. Some of the assessed work will be group work. You will receive regular feedback on your assessments. You will also undertake a dissertation which will require research in to a new area of accounting and finance.
