Students on this course undertake self-initiated research into current practice and theory of fine art and understand where work is situated within the field of contemporary art practice.
A good Honours degree, or equivalent qualification, in an appropriate subject. Applications from candidates with appropriate qualifications and a minimum of 3 years work experience are welcomed. Those without formal qualifications need to demonstrate relevant work experience and the ability to study at postgraduate level. Applicants must possess competence in English language and we normally require grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all 4 components) or TOEFL internet based 87 (with at least 21 in listening and writing, 22 in speaking and 23 in reading).
Modules include: Developing practice; critical debates; studio and exhibition; advanced research; major project.
Studio modules are assessed by a viva voce. Theory and research modules are assessed by essays or presentations. The final module has an exhibition with a viva voce examination.
