Strength and Conditioning

This course gives students the opportunity to study areas ranging from plyometrics to weightlifting, speed and agility. They will also develop research skills through both a critical review of literature and the undertaking of empirical laboratory based investigations; students will gain experience in the sport and exercise environment through our work placement module. One of our partner organisations is Saracens Rugby Club - our facilities at their nearby Allianz Park stadium boast world-class performance laboratories, rehabilitation units and testing facilities.

Entry requirements

Applications from graduates with a good Honours degree (2.2 or above) are welcomed. Applicants should have competence in English language and grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all 4 components) or TOEFL internet based 87 (with at least 21 in listening and writing, 22 in speaking and 23 in reading).

Course modules

Compulsory: Advanced strength and conditioning training; applied physiological and biomechanical assessment; dissertation; research methods. Optional: Diometric modelling and performance profiling; movement analysis and corrective exercise; psychology of elite performance.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods include practical assessments, case studies, critical reviews, essays, presentations, examinations and a dissertation.
