Sports and Exercise Science

Students on this course study scientific intervention to enhance training and performance, with the aim of developing programmes to improve general health. The course provides students with the opportunity to gain experience in the sport and exercise environment through the work placement module, with time spent in the university sport science clinic for preparation for working outside with external employers.

Entry requirements

Applications are welcomed from students with a degree in a sport or exercise related field (2.1 or above). Students with 2nd Class Honours degree may be considered. Alternatively prospective students who have equivalent qualifications and have extensive experience in the area will be welcomed. Applicants should have competence in English language and grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all 4 components) or TOEFL internet based 87 (with at least 21 in listening and writing, 22 in speaking and 23 in reading).

Course modules

Compulsory: Dissertation; research methods; work placement. Biomechanics pathway: advanced sport and exercise biomechanics; biometric modelling and performance profiling. Physiology pathway: advanced sport and exercise physiology; laboratory techniques in exercise physiology. Psychology pathway: advanced sport and exercise psychology; psychology and exercise performance.
