Writing for Creative and Professional Practice

This programme enables aspiring and practicing writers and professionals to develop their writing skills, tap into their creativity and meet the challenges posed by an increasingly digital marketplace. The course particularly suits writers who want to develop techniques across a diverse range of media as well as professionals looking to stimulate their abilities in creative thinking and the art of persuasion. Focusing on the crafts of writing, creative thinking and persuasion, the course develops your writing and editing in ways that foster intellectual flexibility and adaptability. The evolution of digital technology, from blogs and social media to e-publishing, presents new demands and new possibilities for writers. This course nurtures transferrable skills to help negotiate the fast-paced 21st century media landscape and become adept at switching between different modes of communication.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a good Honours degree, or equivalent qualification, in an appropriate subject; we also consider candidates with other relevant qualifications and individuals with a minimum of 3 years' work experience. Those without formal qualifications need to demonstrate relevant work experience and the ability to study at postgraduate level. You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all four components). Middlesex also offers an Intensive Academic English course (Pre-Sessional) that ranges from 5-17 weeks, depending on your level of English.
