The course provides an opportunity for those who wish to embark on a career in research and development but do not wish to commit to a PhD; students undertake an individual research project, aligned to areas of current research activity and expertise in the School; students also receive training in research skills through a number of workshops where they develop skills in research design and methodology, data analysis, academic writing, presentation and other transferable research skills.

Entry requirements

2nd Class Honours degree or above in a computing discipline. Applicants must have competence in English language and grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students are IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all 4 components) or TOEFL internet based 87 (with at least 21 in listening and writing, 22 in speaking and 23 in reading).

Assessment methods

Assessment will be based on a final dissertation of approximately 30,000 words. 2 independent examiners will be appointed who will read and evaluate the dissertation, following which you will be invited to make an oral defence of your work.
