The course explores the relationship between work, home and leisure environments and the impact on health. Students acquire skills to assess risk and apply solutions to protect and improve health and safety in a number of settings. The course focuses on occupational health and safety and food safety or occupational health and safety and pollution control.
Good Honours degree in an appropriate subject; or equivalent qualification; or other relevant qualifications; or a minimum 3 years' work experience; those without formal qualifications need to demonstrate relevant work experience and the ability to study at postgraduate level. You must have competence in English language and we normally require Grade C GCSE or an equivalent qualification. The most common English Language requirements for international students is IELTS 6.5 (with minimum 6.0 in all 4 components).
Modules include: Environmental and health interventions; environmental and public health; environmental health: management and law; factors shaping health and safety at work; managing health and safety processes at work; pollution and disease: cause, effects and control; practical food inspection; research methodology and dissertation; risk management: assessment and control; plus options chosen from; environmental pollution control and law; factors shaping food safety law and practice;science and technology in the management of food safety; sources and effects of pollution.
As well as written and oral exams and your research project and dissertation, you will be assessed through practical food examinations, tests, presentations � including group presentations - essays, work portfolios, case study analyses, laboratory reports and other written assignments, including an article for publication. Your dissertation will consist of are search proposal, a 12,000-word thesis and a 20-minute presentation; you�ll also keep a learning log, which will form part of your assessment.
