Translating and Interpreting
This course enables students to acquire high-quality translating and interpreting skills so they may enter the translating and interpreting professions, especially in marketable fields such as technology, commerce, international relations and journalism. This MA consists of 2 stages of study over 24 months, and uses English and Chinese as working languages.
A 2.1 Honours degree or a degree with a minimum average of 75 per cent (or GPA 2.75) on your transcript; In addition, it is required that native English speaking applicants have good degree-level knowledge of Chinese; when applying,applicants should enclose any evidence they may have to support their 2nd language proficiency qualification;applicants with lower or non-standard qualifications who have at least 2 years' full-time experience as a translator or an interpreter will be considered; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.0, with a minimum of 6.5 in speaking and writing and 6.0 in listening and reading, which must be no more than 2 years old on starting the programme; no equivalent English language qualifications can be considered on this programme; for Stage 2 entry (advanced): a 2.1 Honours degree or a degree with a minimum average of 80 per cent (or GPA 3.0) on your transcript; applicants must also have expert 2nd language knowledge; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 7.5 with a minimum of 7.0 in all sub-sections, which must be no more than 2 years old on starting the programme; no equivalent English language qualifications can be considered on this programme.
