Professional Translating for European Languages
This course provides a grounding in professional practice and academic theory of translating between English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. The focus is on translating (i.e. written transfer) rather than on interpreting (i.e. spoken transfer). The balance between practical translator training, professional studies, and translation-theory input means that this MA provides both an entry-level qualification into the translation profession and a preparation for a research degree at a higher level.
A 2.1 Honours degree, or international equivalent; native-level writers of English must have French, German, Italian and/or Spanish language as a major component; native-level writers of French, German, Italian or Spanish must have English language as a major component; applicants with 2.2 Honours degrees, translating experience or degree-level foreign/2nd language ability will be considered; applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS of at least 7.0 or equivalent.
