Mitochondrial Biology and Medicine

The programme provides a springboard into a career that involves a working knowledge of scientific research in academia and industry. The programme is a research-based qualification with a taught component that is of an equivalent standard to an MSc. It provides training in contemporary medical and molecular biosciences through subject-knowledge modules in, or related to, ageing and health, professional and key skills training and a 24-week laboratory-based research project. The programme in mitochondrial biology and medicine is designed to provide a thorough understanding of human mitochondrial genetics.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree, or international equivalent, in a science discipline or an MBBS degree with high grades. Practical laboratory work experience is desirable, although not essential. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require a minimum of IELTS 6.5 (with 6.5 for each sub-section) or equivalent. International applicants require an ATAS (Academic Technology Approval Scheme) clearance certificate prior to obtaining their visa and to study on this programme.
