The programme provides a springboard into a career that involves a working knowledge of scientific research in academia and industry. The programme is a research-based qualification with a taught component that is of an equivalent standard to an MSc. It provides training in contemporary medical and molecular biosciences through subject-knowledge modules related to and including medical microbiology, professional and key skills training and a 24-week laboratory-based research project. A subject-based module in molecular microbiology focuses on how model organisms, representative of the diversity of the bacterial sub-kingdom, are helping to add clarity to central biological questions in bacteriology, such as the control and regulation of cell division and of gene expression.
