Molecular Microbiology

The programme provides a springboard into a career that involves a working knowledge of scientific research in academia and industry. The programme is a research-based qualification with a taught component that is of an equivalent standard to an MSc. It provides training in contemporary medical and molecular biosciences through subject-knowledge modules related to and including medical microbiology, professional and key skills training and a 24-week laboratory-based research project. A subject-based module in molecular microbiology focuses on how model organisms, representative of the diversity of the bacterial sub-kingdom, are helping to add clarity to central biological questions in bacteriology, such as the control and regulation of cell division and of gene expression.

Entry requirements

A 2.1 Honours degree, or international equivalent, in a science discipline, or an MBBS degree with high grades. Practical laboratory experience is desirable, but not essential. Applicants whose first language is not English you need an overall IELTS score of 6.5 (with at least 6.5 in all sub-skills) Applicants may need an ATAS (Academic Technology Approval Scheme) clearance certificate.
