Automation and Control

This course covers all the major disciplines in automation and control. It includes in-depth study of advanced control systems, industrial automation technologies, systems integration, distributed control systems and field bus protocols. The course equips engineering graduates with the theory and practical experience to begin a career as a design or development engineer in control and automated systems. It also develops skills in research and knowledge acquisition, which provides the foundation for further study.

Entry requirements

A 2:2 BEng honours degree, or international equivalent, in electrical and electronic engineering; computer engineering; mechanical engineering; physics; communications or information and control engineering. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.0, or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: Industrial automation, robotics and artificial intelligence; distributed control systems; advanced control systems; state space analysis and controller design; coursework; electrical power and control project; individual project. Optional modules: Signal processing and estimation; advanced multimedia systems; power electronics; control of electric drives; power systems operation.
