This programme provides knowledge and skills to graduates in order to develop a critical understanding of management and organisations. An ethical approach to the practice of management is embedded across the programme. Students will be encouraged to question existing management practices as well as their own values and judgement in developing frameworks and responses to practical management challenges. Those choosing to enter the workplace after completing this course are expected to take up effective business specialist and management roles within a wide range of organisations.

Entry requirements

Direct entry is available to students who have: BA/BSc (Hons) at 2.2 or above or equivalent in an appropriate business and management related subject area.

Course modules

The course consists of 7 taught modules (20 credits each) and a research project (40 credits) totalling to 180 credits. The individual modules are as follows: Managing people and processes; marketing management; managing financial performance; strategic management; contemporary issues in global business; leadership and change; research methods; research project.

Assessment methods

Assessment will be through a range of methods including online discussions, video presentations and short answer questions, along with more traditional essays, reports and time constrained assessments. The course culminates in a research project based on your original research. It will be conducted in an area of interest to you using the research skills acquired throughout the course. You will receive support from a supervisor throughout the project phase of your course.

Sponsorship information

Newman has 13 £10,000 scholarships for students who start a full or part-time Masters degree in September 2015. These scholarships are available to students who graduated from their undergraduate degree (at Newman or elsewhere) with a 2i or above in 2015. The scholarships will cover the total cost of tuition fees and provide a contribution towards living costs whilst students complete their Masters degree. These scholarships will only be available in 2015 as a national system for postgraduate tuition fee loans will be in place in 2016.
